Legend (Legend #1) by Marie Lu

My Rating: 4/5 stars

Out of all the dystopian novels I have read, Legend has been the most impressionable by the development of the characters and the strategically planned plot twists.

Unlike most books Marie Lu decides to kill off a main character(Metias) relatively early on in the book. This shocked me quite a lot as I admired the relationship that the two siblings had with each other. I was impressed by the way Lu was able to sustain the character's importance within the book even after his passing.

While reading I couldn't help but try to predict the next step in Day's and June's lives and could never of expected that they would end up falling for each other. I can't tell you how much I shipped them from the moment they met! I shipped them so much I would of been able to steer a ship across the Atlantic and back with my pinkie.

The greatest thing about these two main characters and their relationship is that they're complete polar opposites and yet you can't help become attached to both of them. Day was shoved into this unlawful lifestyle in the slums of the Republic from the moment he was born. He was a criminal. Nevertheless, it's the fact that Day commits these unlawful acts out of the kindness of his heart to provide for his family that makes us protest to call him a criminal, but a legend. It's these acts of selflessness and compassion that makes us read on in support of Day. In comparison, June has grown up with the rich and elite of the Republic; destined to take up a high-status military occupancy. She's naïve and unaware of the destruction the plague leaves behind in the pits of her beloved Republic. Nevertheless, the further she progresses through the book she uses her strength and will in the way she wants. In the right way. And never will she mistake putting her complete and utter faith into the beloved Republics hands again.

It's the powerful messages that this book emits that makes it more then just an ordinary YA dystopian book. I highly recommend Legend by Marie Lu. I promise you won't regret it.
